Common Questions
What can I expect from therapy?
- The first 1-2 sessions are for assessment where you and your therapist get to know each other and you decide on your goals of therapy.
- Weekly sessions that are 53 minutes long.
- You can expect to talk about difficult things and positive things in therapy. You can also expect to feel safe, validated, and know that your thoughts and feelings are important.
- We will work on processing traumatic events from the past that are still impacting you today. We will use a therapy called EMDR to do this.
- Our staff will not tell you what to do. We will help you explore options and learn skills to help you reach your goals. Your recovery is your choice.
How long will therapy take?
- Therapy sessions are usually weekly, on the same day and at the same time
- Most people are in therapy for 6 to 12 months but for someone with more complex/severe trauma history, therapy may take many years to address all of the things they have been through. It depends on how much you want to work through and we will always respect your decision to take breaks from therapy when you want or need to.
- The length of therapy depends on your goals for therapy and also the severity and complexity of your trauma.
- Therapy does not last forever! You always have the right to stop therapy whenever you want!
